5-Day Creativity Challenge

13

I’ve been working on something exciting with The New York Times over the past few weeks: starting Monday, June 2, they’re launching a 5-Day Creativity Challenge. Each day has a quick exercise to help get your creative muscles moving. I had a lot of fun making all the animations and illustrations, and I’m looking forward to doing the challenge myself.

I used a bunch of different techniques throughout the project. For the rainbow, I filmed myself painting on green paper and used Keylight in After Effects to remove the background and apply a color tint. Then I duplicated the footage multiple times, scaled each layer down, and changed the colors. And voilà—a rainbow!

After the week’s over, I’ll be sharing more techniques and show how I took the project from rough sketches to finished artwork.

You can learn more about the Creativity Challenge here and sign up to get next week’s daily exercises.

Big thanks to Sarah Williamson for her superb art direction.
