Onward is a "dynamic sampler" made by the incredible people at Chase Bliss. It basically glitches and collages the sounds you put into it. It's an expensive device but a lot of fun.
Can you recommend a cheaper version of this device? I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of this kind of small samplers out there, but Onward is definitely not in my budget at the moment. Thanks!
Haha! Yeah, the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek—also a nod to Dr. Strangelove. But I actually do mean what I said. I’m excited to use my phone for more creation than consumption. Glad you liked it!
Yes! I was raised on Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street. I recently watched some old segments from those shows and was struck by the relaxed pace and sense of calm that permeates them. They are definitely an inspiration for me.
loved this vid. Thank you. I look forward to your emails. These are so simple and so real. They are just the everyday things one does. Ordinary life is a story. Stop and look.
Thanks Rashunda! I think you can learn animation in this life! In fact, I’m thinking of putting together some very basic tutorials to help people get started making simple animations.
Each new post from you fills me with so much joy. ❤️
Thanks so much, Debjit!
OMG—love this so much! What is the Onward device and where is it found?

The title got to me - I thought it was ironic counter intuitive advice, lol. But turned out to be so much better. Pure joy:))))

Dude! This is awesome :)
Your short film feels so much like some of the programming for kids in the 70s (in the best way!) - totally takes me back.

Wow, I spent hours making utter garbage on Koala and it was always possible to not do that?!
Haha! Yes, it does that too, but I’m not particularly averse to garbage.
This is awesome. I downloaded the koala app and am excited to start recording different sounds to mix.
Woohoo! You’re going to love it. The guy who invented the app has some great tutorials on YouTube. Can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
I LOVE the Koala app
It’s the best.

Thank you for your kind note, Caroline. This is exactly what I’m going for—revealing the magic of everyday life and creative play.
